The Pre-Dawn Departure
My alarm screamed at 3:30 AM. Every muscle begged me to stay in bed, but I'd driven three hours to Al Ain for this moment. Jebel Hafeet, standing at 1,240 meters, isn't the world's tallest mountain, but it promised something I desperately needed: perspective.
The Ascent
The road winds through 60 corners, each one revealing new vistas as you climb. I pushed my legs harder, breath coming in short gasps. Other early risers—cyclists, runners, fellow seekers—nodded as we passed, united in our pursuit of something beyond comfort.
Sunrise at the Summit
I reached the top just as the first light broke over the Omani mountains. Below, Al Ain's oasis stretched like a green jewel in the desert's embrace. The sky exploded in oranges and pinks, and for those perfect minutes, everything that worried me seemed impossibly small.
Lessons from the Mountain
Jebel Hafeet taught me that growth requires discomfort. That beauty is earned. That sometimes you need to climb above your daily life to see it clearly. As I descended, legs trembling but spirit soaring, I carried these truths with me.
If You Go
Start before dawn to beat the heat. Bring water, sunscreen, and determination. The climb is challenging but accessible. At the top, Mercure Grand Jebel Hafeet offers breakfast with the best views in the UAE.
